Spring School on Applied and Toric Topology

Málaga, May 10-14, 2010

Promoted by the Spanish Topology Network

Introduction

The Spanish Topology Network RET promotes and supports from 2007 the organization of international advanced courses on different aspects of topology chosen carefully for their novelty or their interdisciplinary character.

This time, and coordinated by Yves Félix (Université Catholique de Louvain), Aniceto Murillo (Universidad de Málaga) and Daniel Tanré (Université de Lille), the University of Málaga in Spain is pleased to host the Spring School on Applied and Toric Topology from 10 to 14 of May, 2010.

We have scheduled two courses, one about a relatively new and emerging area of topology and the other about new interactions of topology with other sciences in which topological methods have been recently and successfully applied. These are:

Toric Topology by Prof. Nigel Ray (University of Manchester).

Applications of Algebraic Topology to Science and Engineering by Prof. Robert Ghrist (University of Pennsylvania).

Due to their nature, these courses are directed to a broad audience: from a young doctor or a graduate student with some topology background to the established mathematician, topologist or not, interested in emerging areas or in the application of topological tools in unexpected subjects.
